Canon 70D / 5D for Filming – Workflow
Dear Creative Cow People,
I started learning about cameras and filmmaking early this year and I came across lots of different information, tips, techniques, workflows and post production – how to utilize the compressed 8bit h264 mov from Canon DSLRs. Shot some band documentaries, 2 video ads for the company I work for, and some one-take music videos.
In the next two days I’ll be shooting my first pre-nup video for my friend. I am kinda confused now on what workflow to use. I will be shooting on a flat profile and color correct & grade afterwards. I use Adobe Cs5.5, Magic Bullet and Film Convert.
Here are some options I am planning to take on, however I need your expert advice on what is the best:
1) Shoot on CineStyle flat picture profile > transcode to ProRes 422 using 5DtoRGB without applying a LUT ( i want to work on flat. Hoping it wont break while doing color correction/grading
2) I purchased a picture profile from DSLR Perfection called 5D to BMD which emulates the gamma curve of a Black Magic Design camera > leave it as 8bit H264 mov and color correct it.
3) Install Magic Lantern, which I’ve never used before (but I wont shoot in RAW – takes time to process footages) use only what preset is there and hope for the best in post
I made all the shot list which includes different focal lengths, now I am in a bliss of excitement and a little bit scared. Hope you can shed light on me regarding this. Thank you very much in advance.
