I have attempted to search for this answer and I am apologizing in advance if it has been answered and I simply could not find it.

I have been shooting footage at 1920×1080 (29.7fps). When I drag my .MOV file into Final Cut Express 4.0.1, the default resolution setting is 720×480. I have searched for a setting that would let me change this but to no avail. I even had a friend who uses FCP look for the setting under “Sequence > Settings” where he said it normally is and we could not find the tab.

Is there anyone out there who has encountered a similar problem and if so, is there a resolution for someone who discovered this problem 3/4’s the way through his edit?

Sorry if this is a redundant question.

    Hi Daniel,

Inside the “Sequence…Settings…” Dialog box, there should be a button in the bottom left hand corner “Load Sequence Preset…” If you click on that button, you should be able to load the “Apple Intermediate Codec 1920x1080i60” Preset. This will setup your sequence to the proper format, however the clips inside your sequence will retain their DV size (720×480).

To correct the sizing distortion, you’ll have to select all of your clips and then go to “Edit…Remove Attributes…” and select “Basic Motion.” But please keep in mind that this will reset all of the Basic Motion settings of your selected clips, including any changes you made on purpose. Those will have to be redone after you fix the distortion

    Hope that helps!

    Hey Daniel,
Basic motion describes all of the most straightforward aspects of motion you might want to adjust or animate. Things like the scale of the clip, the rotation of the clip, the position of the clip and any cropping parameters.

    Joel,

Thanks. I completely understood once I was faced with the issue of realigning everything. What a task. I suppose its better than having to re-edit all the video. Thanks for your help — you are a life saver.
