Canon 5d Mk III Prores HQ or LT
Hi!
I’m converting footage from a Canon 5d Mk III -camera for editing. Will Prores LT be sufficient? I’m doing basic editing with basic color grading and no VFX. Thank you!

It’s a bit of a loaded question since most people won’t see any difference, while those with a trained eye might. I’d personally stick with Prores HQ for any intermediate render in need of heavy color correction or exposure correction, but in most case you probably would not see a difference

Right, I A/B’d the HQ & LT formats and I do think I noticed somewhat difference with HQ displaying the blacks more accurately. I’ll stick to HQ for this project and see what I’ll use in the future, thanks.

LT is plenty sufficient IMO. The raw DSLR footage is a highly compressed 8-bit h.264, so it’s not as if LT is any more compressed than the original footage, nor can you add information just by converting to HQ. So theoretically nothing would be gained by using HQ, and I have observed no difference between h.264 converted to HQ and LT. Having said that I’m sure many people go with HQ and will tell you they see a difference, even though I would bet it’s more of a Placebo effect more than anything. So basically compare for yourself and go with what you want
