Canon 5D Mark III Log and Transfer Problem
FCP 7 on Mac OS 10.7.5
I’m running some H264 files shot on a 5D Mark III through Log and Transfer to preserve timecode for audio syncing.
Most of the files seem to work fine, however, there’s a section of clips that doesn’t want to finish transcoding.
The progress circle on the left is half full as it processes the clip and I can see the physical file appear in the finder window, however, when the process completes, the desktop file disappears and the half full progress circle remains.
There’s no consistency to which clips work and which don’t, but it’s my luck that most of the clips that need to be synced are the one’s that don’t work.
I’ve tried restarting FCP, restarting the computer, copying the raw files to a different directory and moving the scratch disk to another location. Nothing seems to fix it.
Any ideas?

Canon 5D files are QT so -although not supported by FC- they can be directly imported without using L&T.
However, for proper management (preserving original TC and allowing reconnecting) you need ti install a Canon Plugin.

Perhaps I should back up and explain that the intention of running the clips through Log and Transfer is to transcode them to Pro Res 422 without losing the timecode. Most of the time I will run these clips through Streamclip which does not preserve the timecode, however I needed the timecode for a sync job this time.
I have the Canon plug-in installed and the files do indeed import through log and transfer. I was just trying to figure out why only some of them transcoded properly and if anybody has encountered this problem before.

But you have the right Canon plug in?
For the Mark lll they made a new plug in. The one of the Mark ll is not really working with it.
The card structure of the ll and lll are different.Greetings,

Make sure you have following plug in installed:
And don’t work on your computer with any other application, while transcoding.
Compressor does not like that, specially with files from the 5D.Sascha Engel

hi, (excuse my poor english) i have the same problem, and i’ve been investigating the differences between the clips that work fine and those who not. And i find that the clips don’t work hasn’t a TC track on the QuickTime movie Properties (cmd+J) on QT. i am talking about the h264 files, those originals on the card backed up… on the FCP those clips have a regular TC in and out, but in the QUickTime, they look don’t have…
hope this help anyone… i’m still logging the clips manually, one by one
