I have had a few discussions with friends lately and would like some feedback on using ProRes 1080p/23.98 Canon 5D footage and outputting through a KONA LHI for a SD DigiBeta layback.

I set my Video Playback setting to 1080psf/23.98 10-Bit and then set my down-conversion to 525/29.97 in the KONA Control Panel. This seems to work fine but others have set the Video Playback to 1080i/29.97. This introduces a 3:2 cadence before the down-conversion, correct? Is this a better workflow?

Also, I am curious as to why there is so much aliasing when the Video Output is set to a 720P setting when using 1080p footage. I switch between 720P and 1080P sequences a lot and sometimes forget to change the Video Playback settings. I’m guessing it’s just because the video input is wrong but I have noticed that the picture looks sharper on SD output when set to 720P but tons of aliasing so it’s not useable.

    Thanks,

    tony

Use easy setups. Your life will be a whole lot….easier.

Just use the 525 settings to downconvert. Use the 1080i output when staying 1080.
