Cannot view COW videos with Firefox
Posted by James Houghtaling on February 26, 2012 at 7:41 amIs there a known issue with playing videos the live on the COW servers? All I see is a still image of the video but no player. I can view the vids fine via Chrome, but not in Firefox.

March 5, 2012 at 3:23 pmHello James,
There are no known issues of this kind.
What version of FF are you using?
Can you post a URL that you are experiencing this issue on? -

March 5, 2012 at 5:03 pmI’m using FF V 10.0.2
The problem occurs on all of the videos that are hosted on this site.
I just get a still image where the player should be.The problem appears to be with Adblock Plus. When I disable that add-on the video player appears.

March 5, 2012 at 9:06 pmHmm, not sure how to check on javascript…though I do have a Java Platform SE 6 U29 6.0.290.11 plugin running.
The link you provided gives me a 404 error.

March 5, 2012 at 9:08 pmWhen you view this page in your browser do the ads display?

If they do, you have Javascript enabled. -

March 5, 2012 at 9:39 pmNo ads on my browser – that would be thanks to Adblock Plus. As I mentioned in an earlier reply, if I turn Adblock off, the player appears. I’ve had this happen on other sites like local news websites where their videos look like ads to adblock and won’t display. I just never made the connection.

March 5, 2012 at 9:41 pmSorry, I had missed that you mentioned Adblock Plus. That must be it then. Sorry we don’t have a work around for that right now.

And never will. Please do not work on one, Abraham. In fact, we should make it to where AdBlocker users find NONE of our pages or videos showing up, just an image of an old TV with no picture, just noise, and a thank you for NOT supporting Creative COW.
;o)
If we support ad-less viewing, we can turn off the COW and all get back to our analog lives — at least the parts that we spend in the COW.
There are premium sites on the net that charge you and do not have ads. We aren’t one of them. There are no free lunches, if you don’t pay then we have to — and we pass that cost to our sponsors who underwrite the cost of supporting all of the 2 million users a month that visit all of our FREE content.
Thank you all for your understanding.
Best regards,
