  • Cannot use Mercalli 2 in SVP 12

Posted by Rich Kutnick on March 10, 2014 at 1:25 pm

This has been an ongoing problem for awhile, and having gone back and forth with ProDad in Germany for the past 6 weeks or so with no relief from them (they cannot duplicate the problem), here it is:

I cannot use Mercalli 2 directly in Sony Vegas Pro 12 64-bit. The SAL (V3 Standalone) works, though. In Vegas, there is no box in the Mercalli module to create the stabilized clip–I can analyze, but after that I cannot do ANYTHING with the clip–there is no box to check to actually PERFORM the render and replace the unstabilized clip with the stabilized one! This problem has continued through all of the current SVP 12 updates, too.

Short of uninstalling/reinstalling Vegas (don’t want to lose any presets), which probably won’t do anything anyway, any thoughts or suggestions? Anyone else have this problem? Since SAL 3 works great, I don’t want to rock the boat too much, but it IS easier for minor stabilization to use Mercalli IN Vegas instead of rendering a clip to drop in the timeline from the external version. Thanks in advance.

Ah! Apologies, just reread your post: Mercalli Plug DOESN’T produce a clip as per the SAL. You CAN render out that Event if you wish to.

Excellent observation and question, Graham–yes, and I have tried reinstalling the latest plug-in a number of times with no changes in operation or results.

You have me a bit confused on this one, or is it I that have you confused? Again, Mercalli SAL 3 works as advertised–it’s V2 inside of SVP12 that does not work–it analyzes the clip, but that’s about all. When done analyzing, the screen looks exactly like it did BEFORE the analysis–there is no sign whatsoever that the plug-in did anything at all!! Am I now clear on this explanation?

I understand you are saying that Merc2 doesn’t achieve anything? Correct?

That is NOT the case for me. I’m using VP12 770.

    1] I apply Merc2

2] I apply Rock Solid Template.

3] I get Rock Solid stabilization.

Make sure you DON’T have FX Bypass engaged.

Graham (Grazie), you are a (expletive deleted) GENIUS!! I really have never paid much attention to the split-screen/FX bypass modes for the preview window!! Despite my detailed explanations to ProDad over the past months, they NEVER ONCE asked about this!! No wonder they were scratching their heads!! Upon disengaging the split screen and ticking clipboard instead of FX bypass, I stabilized an event. I then played it back, both engaging/disengaging the efefct, and voila it looked like the event DID stabilize after all!! I cannot thank you enough for your insight! That’s one reason I keep coming back here for advice so much!!
