Hey guys having an issue where I’m opening an image I have scanned in as a Tiff through a photocopier.

It opens fine, but everything is greyed out like it is locked. I however cannot unlock it.

Is this some form of protection on the file itself stopping me from being able to adjust anything.

I can finally access the file if I marquee around it and drag it into another comp.

Did you maybe scan the image as grayscale or “indexed colours”? In this case you need to convert it RGB or CMYK first. Select Image>Mode from the drop down menu and select the colour space you want.
