  • Cannot scrub thru the timeline live with CTI

Hey guys, new to AE and have signed up for Total Training on the COW site and going thru the course.

The instructor draws a simple rectangle. Sets a keyframe, moves the rectangle to the right and sets another one. Then she scrubs the CTI in the timeline to show how that effects the movement of that rectangle. When she does it you can see the rectangle move back & forth live in the content area.

As I follow her doing the same thing and scrub, it doesn’t move in real time. I move the CTI, let go and then the rectangle moves. As I go back & forth it will not move in the content area until I let go of the mouse and then it will jump to the new position.

I obviously have something turned off or something here and I’ve tried to find it and can’t.

Can you all help me here?

there’s a little button called ‘live update’ (or something like that) at the top of the time line. it should look like asquare with and ‘x’ in it over another square. click that and that should give you live feedback as you scrub thru the timeline.

The Live Update switch and OpenGL settings are featured early in Total Training’s AE programs. All that stuff is in the “getting familiar with the interface” tutorials.
