    Hi,

I have installed FCS3 and I’ve kept Final Cut Pro 6 on my system, so I can be compatible with editors who haven’t upgraded yet. FCS3 installed and seems to work, however FCP6.0.6 crashes when i start it. What’s curious though is that 5.1 is working fine (at a first glance at least).

    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Alec.

    Yes. You cant do that.

FCP 6 probably uses something that FCP 7 has updated and doesn’t like it. FCP 5.x probably doesn’t use whatever it is because its older and has less features….though other operational problems could appear with more use. FC Studio install all sorts of stuff in your system…its not like other programs which contain everything in the app bundle. You are asking for trouble trying to run multiple versions on the same boot drive.

If you want to want to work with an older version, get a FW drive and install a System on it. Then Install FCP 6 on that drive as well. Boot off that drive when you want to work in FCP 6.

yeah, i hoped i could avoid that. i used to be able to run multiple versions of fcp all the way down to 4 without a hitch. bummer. now i really have to uninstall 7 and get back to 6. i’ll do the external boot drive for FCS3.

    thanks.
