  • Cannot reduce 900GB fcpbundle file

    Aloha from O’ahu,

I have an almost empty FCP template weighing in at 900GB.

To reduce the size I’ve done everything suggested online:

    — Deleted generated clip file

    — Deleted on my hard drive all media once associated with the project (before it became a template)

    — Deleted all media files still listed below the Projects

Despite massive clearing and trashing, the file remains at a stubborn 900GB.

Can anyone suggest what else I might trash to wrangle this beast?

I don’t want to trash the template because it’s taken weeks to develop.

That said, the template is little more than section “headers” that will get different video following them every week.

    Any ideas would be appreciated!

    Mahalo!

    Hi,

You need to do one thing —actually two 🙂 Find out what caused the size and delete it.

To do this right-click or control-click on your library and choose Show Package Contents. This way your library will open as a folder in your hard drive. Choose to show as a list and click the Size column so you can see everything from big to small. It’s probably render files or if you have transcoded media like optimized and proxy, it could be that. To save space, you can freely delete the Render Files folder And Transcoded Media folders. Also, there is an Original Media folder. Be careful about that, if you don’t have a copy of those files inside the Original Media folder somewhere else on your hard drive, don’t delete them.

    Aloha e Devrim,

    OMG! That’s it!

    900GB of rendered files, etc.

I deleted them all and my template project is intact!

    Question:

These files must have accumulated from multiple past projects.

How is it when I Delete Generated Clips they weren’t deleted?

    Thanks so much!

    Appreciated!

    Great thanks.

That’s because you have to select your Library first and then go to the menu and choose to delete generated library files, not the clip files. Choosing a library will give you these options to delete renders and transcoded files.

    Ah…

    So simple…

I think I’ve always selected the project.

But only when the fcpbundle gets huge and creates hard drive problems.

Which means past project files were “still in there”!

    MUCH APPRECIATED!

    Cheers!
