  cannot match h.264 quality of my original dslr video footage!

  hi everyone

  i’m scratching my head why i cannot seem to match the quality of my 5D Mark II video files when i render/convert my source footage. as soon as i convert my videos to anything other than the huge lossless animation codec i always suffer a loss in quality (grain/pixels) and color (slightly loss of saturation/hue).

  i tried converting my material (1920/1080 29.97fps h.264 shot with cannon 5d markII) to almost everything i could find (including all ProRes Codecs from Apple).

  A 16 second H.264 clip takes up 71.8 mb, the animation codec 1.43 gig. but even the Prores (between 200 and 500 mb) looks far worse!

  would love some input on this.

  conversion tested with:
  Adobe Premiere Pro 5.5
  Adobe Media Encoder 5.5
  Apple Compressor 4
  After Effects 5.5
