  • Cannot make selections in trimmer

Posted by Roger Read on August 4, 2009 at 8:45 pm

I am trying to create sub-clips from a long avi sequence loaded into the trimmer window. However, the I and O and [ and ] keys do not have any effect. The only way I can select is to drag the yellow arrows above the time line. Once I have made a selection this way, I can save it as a sub-clip as normal. Am I missing something simple, or is there a problem with Vegas?

I am using Vegas Pro 8.0c

If you play the video in the trimmer, while it’s playing, hit the i and then the o, it will select that part of the video. double click on the video between the yellow triangles to select it, (It will turn blue) then drag that to the regular time line. Works for me. just tried it. Danny

The problem is that the I key repositions the cursor to the In point, but then pressing the O has no effect. Having experimented, the only way I can do it is to stop playback after setting the In point, then restarting from there. Then the O key works as advertised, and I can then either drag to the Timeline, or make a sub-clip. As I understand it, pressing I followed by O should make a selection during playback.

Further, using the I and O keys to select part of a clip on the time line has no effect whatsoever.

Hmmm, It works on my machine. The [ and ] keys do the same as i and o. try that. You know you can also drag the edges of a clip in the regular timeline to lenthen or shorten it as well.

    Thanks, Danny.

I have the same problem with the [ ] keys, too. Having done more experimenting, I think I might have a problem with Vegas as some other keys seem to be behaving oddly. I will reinstall, and see if that cures the problems.

“I will reinstall, and see if that cures the problems.”

I sure hope you haven’t done this yet.
    Options – Prefs – Editing.
Make sure Collapse loop region when no time selection is present is selected.
If it isn’t, you’ll get the behaviour you’re describing.

Thanks, Mike. Just in the nick of time. That has sorted the problem – don’t know how it got deselected though!
