    Dear Creative experts,

I was just wandering how I can import a .mp4 file into DaVinci, I read it was the best format for importing video file in DaVinci…

    But :
    %I won’t do it.

Dragging the file directly won’t neither.

It’s a 4 hours long video file, with a weigth of 4,94 Go, H.264 (x264), 30 FPS PFR, ACC (CoreAudio).
As I was looking for my file specs, I wandered why such great programs like Videospec and MPEGstreamclip aren’t developed anymore. Maybe I’m just old. What do you use nowadays ?

Tremendous gratitude if you can provide any help,

    Jean

Media Info is a great tool for seeing what’s really in any media file. Available in the Apple App Store and as a direct download too I believe.

Resolve imports lots of different file formats and codecs. I’ve not ever had an issue with something like H264 codec in an mp4 wrapper. Go to Resolve’s Media page and navigate to the file on your drive. Can you see it on the Media page?

Also try opening the file in VLC player and read what VLC reports about the codec. There may be some clue in pixel aspect as to why Resolve is not seeing it.

hi there! another very simple solution is to take the material to another program such as premiere, imovie, etc., whichever works, to render it with the same characteristics and take it back to davinci, this solution has worked for me many times when the same thing happened to me, sometimes it just doesn’t make sense or it is a bug in the program itself.

Are you using DaVinci Resolve free or DaVinci Resolve Studio.

Resolve Free cannot import certain types of MP4 files. Specifically 10-bit MP4 files from a Sony A7s3.

These 10-bit MP4 files import in Resolve Studio.

    Dear specialists,

I found out. The problem was that I was importing the video from an external disk. Moved my filed on my computer and it worked like a charm.

Many thanks for all your kind help,

    Namaste.
