  • Cannot figure how in Vegas pro 11 allign text objects to the left

Posted by John Lenihan on December 14, 2011 at 5:34 pm

In Vegas 10, when I inserted a text media, I would usually tell it to position the block lower left, then would left justify the text in the box. That way I had a nice left justified text regardless of the length.

In Vegas 11, I tried the same thing, but it does’t have a selection for lower left. It has a way of just moving the text around on the screen. Which is fine. But it the anchor point is the center of the text box, so if I set it up and type a longer word, it goes off the screen.

Where did they hide the align left button?

What text are you working with?

Legacy text still has the placement drop down box.

Text and Titles has alignment boxes in the format bar above the window. The first of three boxes is the align left box.

    Mike,

I am using Text and Titles.

Yes I have the left justified box selected in the menu bar.

But that justifies the text within the text box.

When I move the text box, the alignmen of the box itself is the center of the box, not the side of the box.

John, apparently the text box moves to the center of the preview screen by default. Putting your mouse in the box on the preview screen allows you to move the text to where you need it. You need to resize that box to continue type on the same line.

Try the Text (Legacy) instead in SVP 11, it looks like how Text was in SVP 10.

    Mark,

Thank you for pointing out that I have a last ditch effort.

    Mike,

I know what you are saying, however I am not conveying the problem clearly to you. It must be an ooops from the developers.

If you are still curious, here is how you see replicate the problem.

    1. Create text with a short word like “text” with the new text tool. Left justify it. Move it to the lower left and get it just the way you like.

    2. Now change the text to “text and typing tool” .

In vegas 10 the word text would remain stationary and the rest flow to the right.

In Vegas 11 the left part of the text goes off the screen.

John, I understand that. I imagine that is the nature of the Titles and Text plug in to use with animation. Mousing over the preview window will light up a text box to manually move the text back to where you want it. The same box has four handles in the corners to resize the text if you run past screen right. The text box in the preview window is only highlighted when you use the “edit generated media” button in the text event.

The left align box in the tool bar works to keep the text of each line to the left margin. It all gets moved and resized in the preview window to insure the space for animating the text as I understand it.

The problem with this bahavior is that I have about 35 titles to put in and I want them all to be lower left aligned. The only differrence is the words I will put in them.

I used to copy an existing well working title, and paste it, then edit just the text and it would work perfect.

Or I would save the preset and just change the text.

With the vegas 11 way, I have to change the text AND fiddle with the location of each text item. That is guaranteed to have some higher or lower than others.

John, if you used to do that then you would need to use the Legacy text as you did in previous versions in Vegas. Legacy text is the same as text in Vegas 10. Text and Titles is a new feature of Vegas 11.

When using this filter the text box will not go away? Anyone else see this in VP11? For a 5 sec clip I now have the text box in my preview window for the entire program.
