    Hi all,

I have two tapes recorded on long play mode on Canon XL 2 and Canon XL 1. I tried capturing the footage that was on the mini dv via DV deck, it showed on the capture screen on Premiere Pro 2.0 (48kHz standard PAL) however, when I batch captured, it went from seeking, to capturing but the time code stays on 00:00:00:00 on the capture screen while the film kept going on the screen. Then I tried doing it without the batch capture, it did the same thing. Tried both methods using the camera, and the same thing happened. It seems like the computer recognized & detected it but could not record.

Does anyone know why this is happening? I did it the way I would capture any other footage… is there a special way to capture long play? Please help. Thanks 🙂

From the camera it was shot on. From another camera or a deck will often give trouble, as you noticed.

Thus, do NOT record in LP! (esp for the important footage)

If it was a normal shoot we definitely wouldn’t use LP. We were shooting time lapse.

    Cheers.

Thanks 🙂 I never had to even try capturing from camera before since the dv deck had never had any problem capturing any footage until now, so that really confused me.

Is there any way of tricking it to think it as analog input?

    Thanks again.

No. The slightest deviation in tape speed or head alignment in comparison to the original camera makes the whole tape unusable. Your best bet is to capture from the camera you shot with and even then it may not work without problems. One of the drawbacks of using LP. You can’t capture analog from a digital source. You can only capture digital. Analog needs to be converted to digital before capture.
