On FCP 6, over the past month or so, I cannot capture Channel 2 audio.

I set capture to record 2 channels mono. I’m capturing HDV from two different cameras, in both cases, I get only one mono channel, the left one “Mono (a1)”.

If I try to capture as “stereo,” it ends up capturing nothing. That is, I roll and click Capture Now, it says it’s capturing, but when I stop it didn’t capture anything.

If I turn off Channel 1 in order to only capture Channel 2 — it captures nothing, and I can’t hear any sound through my system.

I can hear both channels when I am playing back and while I’m capturing — two different mics, left and right. But when capture is done, I only have the one (left) channel.

I’m completely stumped and not sure what to change here to try to remedy the problem. Both cameras are Canons which I’ve used for the past year-plus and never had this problem.

Only recent thing I’ve done to FCP (other than auto updates) is add FX Factory plugins, which are video, nothing audio.

I went back and recaptured something from August which I’d captured then w/out problems Mono 1 & 2. But tonight only Mono 1 will capture. And as I said, if I turn off track 1 in the capture window, I hear nothing, I don’t hear the right (channel 2) track.

If I turn off Mono 2 it has no effect; I still hear both left and right playing (but it only captures the left track when I capture).

Any suggestions? I have a project shot with 2 mics, one in left channel, one in right. I can play it back and hear it through my computer speakers perfectly. I just can’t get FCP to capture it the right channel for the life of me.

    Thanks, oh wise ones.

Are you capturing through firewire, or through a capture card?

What models are the cameras you are using to play back?

    Hi Ryan:

    Capturing through firewire, as always.

Cameras used both hdv: canon XHA1 and Vixia HV30.

    Thanks.

Just tested some regular ntsc DV footage — no problem, captures audio perfectly.

So this seems to be a problem limited to HDV. Hm…

    Hi Jeff,
did you ever find a solution to the problem? I am having the same exact experience trying to capture HDV footage from a Sony Z1U into FCP 6.0.5.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Problem seemed to have solved itself, shortly after. Can’t recall what all I did in trying to scope this out, but it’s working fine now. Sorry I can’t be of help here.

Thanks for the speedy response. If the problem does pop up again check out the thread below. It seems to have fixed it for me.
