August 4, 2008 at 11:30 amPlease give your full system specifications, what computer, what drives, what camera or deck, how everything’s connected, what settings are on the media, what settings you’re using in Final Cut, and finally what version of the software, of the OS, and of QuickTime are you using?
All the best,
Tom

August 4, 2008 at 11:50 amThanks for the detail. Any other drives or devices attached? Does the application recognize the camera at launch? Are you using FireWire Basic? You should be with a Canon camera.
All the best,
Tom

August 4, 2008 at 11:59 amhmm, hv30 is plugged direct into a external HD, which is tneh firewire into the computer. Have just tried firewire basic, and nothing.
The computer sees the camera on startup and logging works perfectly?/ thanks for the prompt reply -

August 4, 2008 at 12:17 pmDo you have more than one firewire input into the computer? It may be that you need separate firewire buses in order to capture. It sees the camera as the second device in the stream, but it’s not capturing because the drive is the first device.
If you have the budget (and if the laptop has a PCMCIA or ExpressPC slot) consider getting a firewire card. They’re not that expensive, and it may solve your problem.

August 4, 2008 at 12:28 pmyou were bang on (or atleast I think). I plugged the cam direct into the firewire port, and it worked just fine. I know I have gone camera – external-computer before, but maybe that was on a machine this a seperate firewire port ?? unfortunately the macbook only has one firewire and no PCMI. SO I guess I will have to capture direct to the lappy, then most it across to the external. I should get any broken links if I copy the whole folder across ??
thanks for your help 🙂 -

August 4, 2008 at 2:31 pmCanon cameras do not work well when there is another device on the same bus.
