Cannot add a new shape to the library.
Posted by Marvin Herbold on October 31, 2010 at 5:28 pmI have a 6 month license to particleIllusion via buying Sony Vegas Pro 10. I’ve been playing around with it for a bit. One thing I cannot do no matter what I do is to add a new shape to the library. It doesn’t matter what format I try. I am able to load images to use as the background. The error I get is just simply “Error loading: filename.png”. Please help.

November 14, 2010 at 2:05 amI haven’t upgraded to Vegas 10 yet so didn’t know that there was a PI bundle with it – that’s new :o) As to your issue, only Alan can answer this, but maybe… the bundled version isn’t a 100% full version, so maybe one can’t add one’s own shapes.
A lot of maybes, but it’s the best I can come up with.

November 14, 2010 at 2:08 amIt is supposed to be a full 6 month license. I can’t imagine they would restrict adding shapes… Is this supposed to be the official particleIllusion support forum? I haven’t gotten a response from anyone official yet.

November 15, 2010 at 2:52 pmIt’s a full license that expires after 6 months. There are no limitations other than that.
(It is not bundled with Vegas 10. It’s one of the upgrade perk options.)

November 15, 2010 at 3:07 pmI got the 6 month license by upgrading from Vegas Pro 9 to 10. Ok… so… why can’t I add shapes then? It keeps giving me an error.

November 15, 2010 at 4:07 pmCan you add the same exact image file as a background image?
If not, try a different PNG file, or maybe just a JPG. I want to see if you can load *any* images. Loading as a bg image might be easier at this stage. Once you get a file that loads as bg, then try using it as a shape.

November 15, 2010 at 4:31 pmYes, I can add the exact same image as the background no problem. But when I try to add that as a shape I get the error message.
Also – weirdly – for the open file dialog box – if I double click on the file name of the image to add as background, it works ok. If I single click on the image, and then click on the “Open” button… I get an “invalid operation” error.
I am running the 64 bit Vista OS if that makes any difference.

November 15, 2010 at 5:23 pmOk, I’ll check it out. Also, your info about “double-click” just solved another support issue for me — thanks!

November 18, 2010 at 6:10 pmI’ve duplicated the problem, but no solution yet. I’m working on it though. The interesting thing is that the shape import seems to be the only area where this error occurs. As you said, you can load it as background image, and I’ve also tried other functions that load images and they work.
I don’t have a workaround either. Hope to have it solved this afternoon.

November 18, 2010 at 6:13 pmI’m wondering – is this an issue specific to the Vegas Pro 10 6-month trial license version of particleIllusion or does it affect all licenses of PI?
