    Hi all,,
So I’m making this text design where I’m having the “coating” of the letters crack off like a hard shell. I’ve been using the plug-in Xplode to handle the breaking apart process and it works pretty well…I think the trouble I’m having is cos of the way I’m setting up the letters themselves.

See the way I have them set up now they break into thick chunky pieces, as if the entire model were being shattered. What I want is for it to look as if only the shell or paint job of the letters were cracking off. I get that I will prolly need two models for this (one for the shell one for the underneath section) so I guess what I’m asking is how can i model just the coating/shell of the letters?

Unfortunately I don’t think that Xplode can shatter a shelled object. OTOH, Geotools by Remotion can do it very nicely.

yeah, Thrausi can’t break a hollow object either (you have to punch a hole through so the inside and ouside shells become the same object – I’m guessing so they have contiguous UVWs)
