  • Can´t find scene original time- and date code when capturing DV

Posted by Jens Alw on March 9, 2008 at 12:19 pm

    Hallo!
Am I the only one that can´t capture a DV-tape from my Canon(MVX 300) WITH PREMIERE ELEMENTS 4,
and get the shoot date and time as timecode?!

I have been trying like crazy!
    WHAT CAN BE THE PROBLEM?
(i Am still trying out the Demo-version, if that´s the hook?)

Is it even meant to be done in Premiere Elements 4?
I believe have tried all types of settings and I still can´t see any DATE info in “clip properties”!
(At best I just get original TIME)

I know there is DATE and TIME info on tape, –
it´s working flawless with my OLD PINNACLE 9!!!

I WAS REALLY HOPING THAT PREMIERE IS MORE CAPABLE THAN THAT?!

IF THIS IS SOLVABLE, then I´d like to know if this info is possible to show in “project-clip-window”,
    as a sorting column?

Why this reply isn´t visible, i don´t know,
    but I post it instead:

That’s right. It isn’t a feature. Bang on Adobe’s door demanding it, along with the rest of us.

In the meantime you can use the free utility WinDV to capture and name clips according to date/time. That way you can see the shooting time inside PE and also get clip names which unambiguously sort chronologically. Alternatively you could use the free utility DVdate by Glagla to view the clip shooting time outside PE.

By the way, you should have posted in the main forum, not in a section designed to tell others of useful tips and tricks.

    MY RE-REPLY:

Hallo, and thank´s Peter for replying!

BUT THAT´S REALLY EMBARRASSING FOR ADOBE!
I believed this was a basic function, especially when
the OLD PINNACLE 9 is fixing this!
I will really have second thoughts about buying this!
Maybe people recommending VEGAS are right?

Do you mean that it´s not a function in P ELEMENTS,
or is it a general flaw, even in P PRO?

    P.S.
Sorry for posting in wrong forum, but as new starter,
I think the forum-design is rather difficult to navigate.

Just put the date in the clip name as an easy workaround. In CS3, you can enter it with the Clip Data in the capture window.
