  • Can you unlock the master timeline?

Posted by Bruce Goodman on September 12, 2012 at 5:04 am

I performed an auto scene detect on a project that did not have an edl. Some of the scene changes were not detected. The manual states “if the scene detector missed a cut, you can use the Split Clip control in the Conform page timeline to add a new edit point.” I can’t unlock the master timeline and add the necessary cut. Any suggestions?

[Bruce Goodman] “I can’t unlock the master timeline”

You’ve clicked the little padlock on that layer in the Conform window?

Yes I did but apparently you can’t unlock the Master Timeline which was all that I had at the time of my post. I created a new Timeline which I was then able to unlock and insert cuts where needed. My thanks to Alexis for this advice!

I have the same issue. I cannot unlock the master timeline. Cannot add a track, cannot use blade tool. There is probably something fundamental that I am missing.

Same here. Used the scene cut and send it to conform. Now it´s locked. I can split clips though.

Never mind, just found another post with the solution: You can’t modify the Master timeline. You need to create a new timeline, and modify that. You can do this on the Conform page by clicking the + icon underneath the Timelines area in the upper left.

Stephen (or indeed anyone who might be able to help),

Do you happen to remember the post you saw explaining how to unlock and modify the master timeline following scene cut detection of .mov file?

    Many thanks

Are you on the newest version of Resolve? They have done a lot to make this much easier.
