  • Can you do Keyframe Time re-mapping in premiere pro?

Posted by 409industries on July 21, 2005 at 4:48 pm

    Hi.

I have been trying to achieve what i feel is a VERY simple effect, but with no avail. All i want to do is be able to slow a clip down from 100% speed to 50% gradually… so that its not an abrupt slowdown when viewing the clip.

Is there a way (in premiere pro) that i can accomplish this without an expensive plugin like twixtor? I dont want to it the cheap way either where you cut the clip into 4 pieces and change the speeds from 100% to 75% to etc etc etc.

I really hope there is a way to use keyframes to control the amount of slowdown between 100% speed and 50%, i really dont care if i can only do a linear slowdown.

If someone could help me solve how to do this, i would be so happy! thanks!!!

Time re-mapping is not possible within PPro. It is available in After Effects.

Furthermore, the Speed/Duration setting in Premiere is not keyframable.

    Andre,

[Andre Gagnon] “Furthermore, the Speed/Duration setting in Premiere is not keyframable.”

Well, obviously, or you’d be able to do exactly what Aaron is looking to achieve: Setting a keyframe at the beginning of the clip for 100% speed and a keyframe at the end of the clip for 50% speed would result in a gradual slowing down from full to half speed.

It is not as obvious as you think.

Time remapping layer process requires more than the ability to set keyframes. It further requires graphs where the Value and Velocity Time Remaps may be adjusted at keyframes.

    Andre,

[Quote] “Time remapping layer process requires more than the ability to set keyframes. It further requires graphs where the Value and Velocity Time Remaps may be adjusted at keyframes.”

Regardless of whether or not it requires more than just a simple keyframe or two, if it were keyframeable, you’d be able time-remap a layer, as that’s exactly what keyframes are all about: adjusting from one setting to another over time.

Ive just made the switch from Sony Vegas to Premiere Pro and in Vegas it really is as simple as placing two keyframes in the Velocity envelope. Pretty disappointed if Im honest as I see PPro as the more advanced software

This thread is eight years old. Use the Rubber Band feature to change speed within a clip. The Adobe Help section Change clip speed and duration with Time Remapping and this tutorial video provide more information. Here are the steps:
