    I plan on buying a camcorder.. I remember transfering video from a school camcorder to premiere, can you do the same with after effects?

    You can’t capture directly into After Effects. You can however capture indirectly via Premiere Pro if you have the latest video production suite.

    why I ask is because I dont want to install premiere as well. You can edit and do everything in Aftereffects…

    Yes, but AE is not necessarily a good program for doing editing in. Just the same way you can do a lot of effects and compositing in Premiere, but AE has better tools for doing those things.

    Each program has their strengths. Unless your editing needs are so very simple that AE really would suffice, use Premiere for what it does best and use AE for what it does best.
