  • can timecode be modified as a batch?

Posted by Greg Nosaty on May 27, 2009 at 7:34 pm

I have a series of clips shot on Panasonic prosumer AVCHD camera. The camera does not record continuous timecode for each clip. Instead each one begins with 00:00:00:00 timecode. After I ingest the media into FCP and can modify the timecode for each clip individually which is very labour intensive.

Does anyone know a way to change the timecode in a batch that will match tag and cascade the timecode over all the clips?

    cheers,

Why do that? You aren’t referencing anything by doing this…no tape timecode. And if you needed to reimport due to loss of data, there would be no way to reconnect the media.

I give the transcribers, writers and director TCB screeners of the footage. How will they identify the clips they want to use if every single one starts with the same timecode numbers? You have to have continuous ascending code.

when I modify timecode in FCP it changes the media. If I trash it and replace it with the media on my backup drive re reconnects perfectly.

    That makes sense.

So you modify the footage…and then back it up? So you have a copy somewhere? That is also smart.

    I wish I knew how to batch modify though…That I don’t know.
