Hi, is there any way to create the strobe / flash / black and white effect, seen in Cannibal Corpse’s video “Decency Defied”?
Check out the video and pay attention at 0:15-0:18 and 0:25-0:28.

Here is what I mean: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0OGpRq0Lic&fmt=18

My question goes for both Sony Vegas and Adobe AfterEffects (or should I post that same equestion in the AfterEffects forum too?)

Is it possible to create this effect entirely in a program or is it a 100% hardware setup kind of thing?

I believe this can be done in most NLE’s. It looks like these sections have a black and white plugin with high contrast, along with repeating several frames for each flash along with sections of black between. Hope this helps. Danny Hays

Can both be easily done in Vegas and after effects….But
although i said easy, its still a time consuming process,
because no one plugin can achieve all that.

Splitting up the footage intermittently in vegas, then
drag those cuts horizontally to another timeline where
you would add the black and white filter to that entire
    timeline, etc…..you get the picture.

Also i would have to draw for my “pixelan creativEase” plugin
to make things a little easier….this plugin can do wonders
in creating a stop motion or step time effect that would help
a lot and works both in After Effects and Vegas.

I agree. Add Pixelan CreativeEase Step Time 2 with a Black & White filter and you’re done. It can create some great strobe effects. If you want it to be more jumpy just delete some frames in between.

OK, I will check out this StepTime effect.
    Does it have a DEMO?

Also, will this effect add a strobe/flash to the whole frame?
In the video it looks like only parts of the objects in focus have a strobe applied to them. The rest of the frame is kept black and it makes the effect cooler.

Oh, and do I have to set up any special shooting environment for the footage?
Or could this effect be applied to any video, shot in any environment?

Any known examples to check out?

    Thanks!

You can always apply a mask to the footage to only affect part of it. No special shoot requirements and yes there is a demo.

I downloaded the two demo packs from Pixelan’s web site.
There is no “StepMotion” effect included in them.

Maybe this effect is only present in the full version?

It is there….The demo functions as the full version,
    except for the embedded watermark.

Take your time and go through it.
