  • Can the KiPro be used as a TC accurate playout device?

Posted by Pasquale Tropea on December 7, 2010 at 12:14 am

    Hi,

Is it possible to use the KiPro as a playout device. Here’s the scenario we currently playout our final online ProResHQ sequences to HDCAM SR via the Kona 3, but sometimes, due to numerous factors these playouts suffer ‘dropped frames’ and require a fresh start or an assemble edit, regardless it’s painful and wastes lots of precious time

Can the KiPro be used as a playout device? We’d copy the final exported ProResHQ to the HDD. Can you lock TC together with an SR deck? Can it punch in and be frame accurate?

    Thanks,
    Pasquale

[Pasquale Tropea] “Can the KiPro be used as a playout device?”

Sure, but it’d have to be a crash record to the SR in single link 422. You can send LTC out to LTC in of SR.

As in insert edit? No. It would be, start the KiPro playback, hit record on the SR set to steal external ltc. I don’t know how interesting that is to you, but the KiPro won’t control the SR deck via rs422 if that’s what you’re asking.

Ideally the KiPro controls the SR Deck and synced playback/record occur. i understand that you can crash record but as long as the LTC is frame accurate, i.e. program start is at exactly 10:00:00:00

does AJA envisage creating a simple web GUI that could initiate the control of the SR Deck. The KiPro has an ether port with RS422 and a simple laptop could be used to layoff frame accurate playouts

It won’t do that currently. Not sure if it ever will.

Correct, the KiPro will not control, but the SR deck can. The SR deck can control the KiPro via 422 and accurately edit to it’s self. There are many SR models. I don’t know if all of them have this feature.

As far as a playout machine, I currently use multiple KiPro’s controlled via RS422 by Showplay software for multi- screen and edge blend content with Barco Encore systems, as well as for time-synced playout for symphony conductors timing marks video to keep in sync with movie content.
