  • Can TC Particular interact with Zax Invigorator?

Posted by Joakim Dalfors on July 30, 2005 at 12:36 pm

    Hi!
I am playing around with Trapcodes Particular and trying to get it to interact with some 3d text I created in Zaxwerks invigorator but the bouncing/sticking etc in Particular requires a 3d layer as wall and I get some warning/error message as soon as I try to turn the invigorator layer to 3d.
Is there a way to solve this ?
I know the invigorator is not true 3d but sometimes clever guys find ways anyhow and maybe there is one of you out there.
I found some earlier posts in the forum on a similar matter but none that really answered my question.

You would need to use a new 3d solid as a dummy layer, matched to the movements of the zaxwerks object. The matching of the movement will depend on how easily the 3d coordinates used inside Zaxwerks can be brought into AE. I don’t use zaxwerks, so I can’t be much help there..

    Thanks for the input Kieran.

I think I can get the zaxobject to follow a 3d layer (the invigorator has a function for tracking AE layers) but I am not sure how that would help me since the interaction I am looking for is not the movement but to use the invigorated object as the wall to bounce/slide/stick particles against/along/to. E.g. let smoke come through the 3d text only where there is no “material”.
Can I do that with a dummy layer? As I understand it Particular uses the layers alpha channel (if I choose that option) as a wall through witch the smoke only can pass at the transparent areas in my example. How would the dummylayer “be aware” of or”contain” the information in the alpha channel from the invigorator layer?
    Or am I missing something?

After a new search with different variations I found a link that seems to be about what I am after and it also contained a test project so if only I can get my pc to open a .sit archive, I might find my answers.

    Hi Serge!
Yes that was the link I found at my second “search the forum” try (it only had invig and not invigorator in it so it was not included in my first attempts) and your project was the one I downloaded. I have now got it up and running with a trialversion of stuffit and it seems to be exactly what I am looking for (have not tried bouncing/sticking yet but my main problem seems to be solved).
From what I’ve seen so far your solution seems to be to precompose the 2d invigorator layer and turn the precomp to a 3d layer, am I right or is there more to it?

    Hi,

You are right. It is also not necessary to precompose it’s just that I like to do it this way in case I want later on to add some elements.

    Salut.

Well thanks alot for this project Serge.
Although it was primarily intended for someone else, it showed me how to accomplish what I wanted. How often are you fortunate enough to get a ready made project answering your question so quickly?
