  • Can TC be captured with HD-SDI without RS-422 deck control?

Posted by Chris Oben on February 15, 2007 at 3:37 am

I know TC is carried by HD-SDI as I can see it on a Leader 5750 scope, but the clips captured with the Decklink HD card do not have time code relative to that recorded on the camera. is there any way to accurately capture clips with time code info embedded?

I am capturing live from the camera so there is no deck to control.

    System setup:

    2.0Ghz G5
    Decklink HD
Blackmagic Deck Control 4.8 (pre-apple codecs for highest image quality)

Have you tried enabling VITC in the deck control settings? I know you have no deck, but I had once managed to acquire TC as VITC from a live feed from telecine. We had put a window burn to ascertain that the TC was right.

I can’t seem to find any Time Code settings in Deck Control. I am using Ver 4.8 – the pre-apple codec which has better noise reduciton than Ver 5. Are there VITC options in Ver 5?
