  • Can Sony Vegas Studio Platinum 11 process .mov files

I am about to buy a high end digital SLR from either Canon or Nikon and need to know if Sony 11 can process .mov files without some 3rd party conversion software. I’d love to buy a SONY SLR but the articulating LED screen can’t turn forward without having the tripod get in the way.

With Quicktime installed they can read most any Quicktime MOV file.

Vegas special cases DSLR MOV files and decodes directly via internal decoders. I cannot say about Movie Studio 11. 12 is the version I started with. Anyway with QT installed you should be okay.

If you are going to buy an expensive DSLR then why not purchase Movie Studio 13. The current version. $40US at Amazon. $109US for the suite.

Newer versions of Movie Studio will handle DSLR footage better than older ones so I would definitely update Movie Studio if you are updating your camera. At least to Movie Studio 12. Movie Studio 13.0 has a different interface that you either like or you don’t. ‘Nuf said.

    Good point.

Yea, Music Studio 13.0 has a UI with huge buttons that are design for a tablet but I feel it looks ridiculous as a desktop application. It’s sad because Microsoft’s one-size-fits-all Windows 8 design team is responsible for this type of thinking. A desktop is not a tablet and desktop programs should not look like tablet programs. Apple gets it… Microsoft doesn’t. Sony really needs to re-thing this IMHO. We’ll see what customers think.
