  • Can someone help me fix my menu in Architect?

I’ve read the help files a dozen times, I’ve tried every option, but I’m still not getting what I want. This seems so simple, there must be something I’m overlooking.

I have a media file with 7 markers. Import into Architect and make a menu with 8 buttons, Play All and one for each marker.

If a user picks one of the individual marker buttons I want him to be sent back to the menu after that marker segment plays, but despite trying every available option I get the same result, after the marker segment plays it goes on to the next segment and not back to the menu.

Like I said, I’ve read the help files a dozen times and it seems that I need to set the Media Properties End Action to get what I want. I’ve set it as follows:

    Command: Link
    Destination: Most Recent Menu
    Destination Item: Start

If I understand the instructions correctly the above settings mean that I have set a link to return the user to the start of the most recent menu after the selection plays. Under Destination I’m only given 4 options:

    Most Recent Menu
    DVD Start Clip
    Menu
    Play All

No matter which option I choose I get the same result, the clip continues playing after the marker segment ends.

    What am I doing wrong?

What you need to do is to add the media file to the timeline a total of 8 times (Play All plus each marker).
This won’t increase the file size of the project.
Instead, it will give you the control you need.
Change the names on the main screen to reflect what is button is for.
Double-click the Play All button and make sure the entire timeline is selected in the DVDA timeline (bottom right).
Go back to the main menu and double-click the next menu item or double-click the next item in the Project Overview menu window (left hand side).
Place the cursor at the very beginning and press the I (for In) key.
Now place the cursor at the next marker and press the O (for Out) key.
Only the first section should be highlighted.
Click the End Action button in the menu on this page and make sure it points to the desired location (Most Recent Menu is the default).
Repeat this procedure for the remaining menu items (adjusting the In and Out points as necessary) and you should be OK.

Mike, thanks for the detailed instructions. I don’t have time to follow them right now, maybe later tonight I’ll be able to work on it.

    You’re welcome Kent.
Let me know if something doesn’t make sense and I’ll try to explain it better.

Mike, it worked perfectly. Now it’s just the way I wanted it to look. Thanks again, I never would have figured that out on my own.

Kent, I’m glad to hear that it worked for you.
Thanks go to Edward Troxel for telling me how to do this quite some time ago.
