November 18, 2014 at 4:30 pmWhen bringing footage in to Premiere and placing it on a timeline for the first time, Premiere will ask if you want to match the settings to the timeline or to the footage. If you select the footage settings, then it will change the Sequence to match and real time playback should be smooth with very little rendering.
When exporting the Sequence you can select “Match Sequence Settings” which will create an exported file with the same codec, frame size, and frame rate as the Sequence you edited in. Look at your Sequence/Sequence Settings in Premier to see what they are. If you uncheck the “Match Sequence Settings” it allows you to change the format, codec, frame size, frame rate and so on. Customizing your export file.

Premiere will ask if you want to match the settings to the timeline or to the footage
it have never asked me to match the settings
When exporting the Sequence you can select “Match Sequence Settings” which will create an exported file with the same codec
but if i had in my project some clips like mov ,mp4 and avi ,what codec will it use ?
seeing the clips are different containersthanks Joe!

November 18, 2014 at 7:42 pmUsually it will use Mpeg I frame for preview.
General speaking I would not use Match Sequence Settings as it will use the Preview codec which is of lesser quality.
When exporting just use a preset or make the export settings yourself.

November 18, 2014 at 10:29 pmBest advice for you using multiple formats in the timeline is
do not use “Match Sequence Settings”.Uncheck the “Match Sequence Settings” box.
Select the Format that you would like the export file to be, QuickTime, H.264, AVI….
Then select a Preset that best meets your needs.
