this is a AE CS6 questions that starts with Photoshop.

    I’m following a tutorial from Adobe’s magazine, photoshop dimensions (https://www.photoshopdimensions.com/)…….and i have a question.

Using the adobe creative cloud apps, software is up to date.

I’m following the tutorial in that report for the “3D Text” and would like to use that text in after effects and add an animated preset to the text.

It’s just shows you how to create 3D text in photoshop, nothing out of the ordinary.

Would the animated presets for text in AE work correctly with the “3D Text” allowing each letter of the 3D Text to be animated or will it act like a image and only animate the entire text block?

is the 3D text i create still “Text” that each character in a word can be animated seperately?

    thanks for any clarification

No, you will lose the 3D in AE.

AE CS6 can create and extrude text though with ray tracing. Over at Adobe.com there are quite a few FREE TUTORIALS for using this new ability.

With CS6, you can extrude text with the Text Tool. You can mix and match Text Animation Presets as you were able to do with earlier versions. One caveat is that Text Presets that use the Blur Text Animator Property are not supported.

One sweet thing with CS6 and raytraced text is that you can switch between the ray-tracing and classic 3D render engines without losing animations created with the Text Tool’s Animator Groups. This allows you to set up your animations quickly while having using Classic 3D Render engine. Then when you’re happy with the animation, you can switch to the Ray-traced engine and set up your beautiful 3D text to your heart’s content.

Want to make adjustments to the animation? No problem, just switch to the CLassic 3D engine and work faster as you make your changes. Cool SH*T! 😉
