  • Can Pivot (Anchor) Points Be Set For Individual Objects?

Posted by David Shough on March 20, 2006 at 6:46 pm

I need to create a clock with rotating hour and minute hands. How can I reset the pivot points (a.k.a anchor points) on the hands so that they can be freely rotated within Invigorator? Looking through the manual, I see that you can reset the pivot points to the center, but obviously I need to move the anchor points to the END of the arms for proper rotation. How can this be done?

    Thanks,

    Dave

Do a quick search in the archives for Pivot Point or Axis and you’ll find heaps of info that should help.

Thanks, John. I didn’t realize the forums were searchable.

A very simple explanation to go beyond the archives:

Create a small cube as a null object. Assign it as the first object to an empty set. That creates the pivot point for the set. Now add the clock hand to the set and position it so the null cube object is at the base of the hand.

Now, reassign the cube to another empty set to create the pivot point of that set. Add the second clock hand to the set. Now, either turn off visibilty of the null cube or remove it from the set.

The archive posts will explain why this works. If not, ask away.
