can not import XDCAM files to FCP

did you back up the MP4’s only or the full BPAV folder structure of the SxS card? you need the folder structure of XDCAM Transfer won’t be able to work its magic

by the way, topic’s tend to come up pretty regularly so for future reference, a quick search is often the fastest way to find the answer to many questions

Hi There,

Thanks for writing. I do not see the BPAV file attached to the files I backed up. I was able to see the files in the XDCAM browser but the few hundred files I have backed up do not open in the XDCAM transfer.

Is there an easy way to re attach the BPAV file or a way I can convert them to QT files?

The camera arrived the day before the shoot.

Have a look to the “SONY CineAlta forum”. Craig Seeman has found a workaround for the people that likes to play with the .mp4.

yikes .. painful way to learn the lesson, you gotta keep the folder structure intact in this brave new tapeless world.

hopefully Craig’s/Rafael’s tip will get you out of trouble … another trick posted over at the Apple Discussions seems to be to substitute these clips source clips into a completely different but valid BPAV folder structure and simply make sure the substituted clips are renamed as for the clip they replace. haven’t tried this (not an EX guy) but it could be a pretty nifty solution if it works

Why some people is making so complicated to work with the EX-1?
I think the workflow is really easy. Only archiving had make me think a bit more. I’m saving in 50GBs Blu-ray disks the converted .mov’s . You can download the rushes from the disk at some 9MB/s. Around half of RT for me is good enough.
I also make a small h264 with all the rushes. That helps me to look for the images that I need.
I use the “Spotlight Comments” in the Info window to put some keywords. Is like a cheap data-base, but works great.

anyone making the mistake of backing up only the raw clips instead of the full folder structure is in pretty good company tho Rafael, seems to be an easy mistake with everyone and there brother doing it!

I like your backup method, its good thinking and sounds pretty robust, only it assumes you convert all your files which sometimes isn’t the case … now, what’d be really nice is if Apple started supporting these container formats natively in QT instead of needing a rewrap … but thats just me pipe dreaming
