  • Can not assign and render material in C4D

Yesterday, I modelled an organic object in Zbrush 3.1.
Then I imported it in Cinema 4D 11. I assigned a nice material to it, rendered it and it looked cool.

I tried this same thing today – model in ZBrush, then assign material and render in C4D.
But this time I have a problem.
I can not drag and drop a material directly onto the object. I can only drag and drop it in the organizer.
Then, when I render it, the material is not visible in the render. Only the default grey, plastic-looking material renders.
And I always delete the default grey material from the materials that are assigned to an object.

    What is causing this problem?
Why can’t I assign and render a material properly?

    Thanks.

I’m not sure what you mean when you say you can’t drag a material onto your object. Does the texture tag appear next to the object in the Object Manager? If so you may have one of two problems: 1) the polygon normals may be reversed, or 2) the object may not have UV coordinates (or coordinates that make sense). Are you using UVW mapping?

    Thanks for the reply.
I’m too new to this 3D technical stuff. I just want to sculpt in ZBrush and not care about anything.
Unfortunately, at one point or another one must face all those UVs, Normals, Nurbs, SSSs and all that crazy stuff.

It can be frustrating trying to get a sculpt from ZBrush to Cinema. Pixologic has made it much easier for Mac users but their Windows implementation has been repeatedly delayed.

Well, I don’t know about this.
I thought that ZBRush works fine with Cinema 4D under Windows. Not tat I have any experience with this, of course.
What are the advanages of using Mac OS in terms of ZB to C4D integration?

The Windows version does work fine — it’s just a little more work to import the model and set up the material. Pixologic has a Mac plugin that automates the process for Cinema and a few other applications. They are working on the Windows version but it’s been delayed a couple times.
