  • Can Motion ingest 5dm2 time-lapse stills?

Posted by Daniel Schultz on December 10, 2010 at 10:34 am

I’m renting a 5d for the weekend and I’m hoping to get some cityscape time lapse b-roll for a piece I’m working on. In other forums, I got advice on how to use an intervelometer to capture stills. But then I don’t know how to ingest the stills into either motion or FCP to create 24 fps. Does anyone know how to do this? I don’t have after effects. I’m posting in FCP forum as well.
    Many thanks

If the image names end in numbers that are sequential (E.g. “timlapse0001.jpg, timelapse0002.jpg …”) then Motion will automatically recognize them as an image sequence and import them as such.

If you use Motion make sure to downrez those photos first as much as possible. I would do this in FCP, or even easier, just use QuickTime 7 – it can import an image sequence and export a movie. That would be the fastest way I know of, and how I do it.

Don’t forget that you can shoot the images in RAW, and use an application like Aperture og Lightroom to adjust colors before turning the images in to a sequence.
This way you will have MUCH more color information to work with.
