    Hi,

gonna try to explain in english:

can i use the brightness value of a certain pixel in my comp in an expression? is there an effect that uses a point controll and dispays the brightness of the pixel where it is located?

Suppose i have a little red dot, and i put a wiggle on the position, is it possible to put an expression on its scale so that is grows when it “flyes” over lighter areas of the layer (or comp) underneath?

Hope its clear what i want to say,

    Thanx

    Grtz

You need a color sampler utility such as Digital Anarchy provides it with their Anarchy Toolbox. AE does not have those functions natively.

I was actually trying to do this last night in one of my comps. I want to rig up a tick-marked circle to rotate based on the average luminance of an image or image sequence. Or maybe just a pixel within that image. Is there a way to derive the luminance data so that it can be used (in an array I’m assuming?)??????

can you use displace to fake it? the color of a pixel effects how much it displaces

Did you figure out how to extract the average luminance of an image?
I have a similar situation where I have a black and white “blob” that pulsates and I want to link the pulsation to an effect on another image in another layer. I figured that extracting the average luminance of the blob layer and generating keyframes from that could drive the other effect. But I haven’t figured out how to do it yet.
    Any suggestions?

You don´t need an extra plugin to manage the question in the first post. I found this:

I hope I could help someone..

i was just checking my own old post, because I forgot how to do that sample picker thing and saw that the link has changed.
    the new one is this:
