can I use media I captured using cinewave on a new mac, fcp and kona 3 card?
Posted by Lee on January 23, 2006 at 3:22 pmHi Guys
I’ve captured over 200 hours of footage using my cinewave system using codec DVPAL, but some other tapes were using TARGA YUV codec.
I don’t want to capture it all over again!
could I use the these files if I moved my drives from my old cinewave system to my new knoa + g5?
Thanks
Paul

January 23, 2006 at 3:29 pmSet up a Sequence using the 2Vuy codec and you should be good to go.

January 23, 2006 at 4:18 pmIn the Final Cut Pro Audio / Video Settings or the Sequence Settings.
Set up an AJA 8 or 10bit SD Sequence Setting, but then change codec to 2Vuy. You do this with your AJA system. I’ve never had to do this but that’s what the codec does. It’s an old Blackmagic codec that you can use to playback CineWave files in an AJA timeline.
Folks who have tried this have reported success on this forum using that setting to play back the CineWave files. I’ve never had to use any of my old CineWave stuff with the Konas so I don’t have first-hand experience with it.

January 23, 2006 at 4:27 pmWhat Walter says, but you’ll have to recapture the PAl dv25 files. Kona does not handle different codecs in the same timeline as Cinewave. You need to either recapture your pal dv25 as 2Vuy, or your targa as pal dv25 and set up your timeline accordingly. If you decide to keep everything dv25, then set your timeline to that, if you decide to do 8 bit uncompressed, then you must set your timeline to that.
