I edited a sequence in FCP and ran it through compressor then made a DVD. Now I found out that have to go back and make a minor correction. The problem is I deleted the project and all I have is the final self-contained clip that I ran through compressor. My question is…can I open a new project, import the self-contained clip that I already compressed, make the minor change and then compress it again without loosing quality by compressing it twice at the same bit rate? Any suggestions?

You should never use MPEG-2 twice – it’ll always lower the quality. But what kind of change do you need? If you need to shorten, insert or something like that, and if a precision of one quarter of a second is good enough, why don’t you edit in the timeline of DVDSP? While this is definitely not a MPEG-editing software, you’ll get away with minor corrections.

Thanks for the help! I will do the editing in DVD SP. All I need to do is change the credits and swap a photo. I will create this in FCP, run it through compressor, import assets into DVD SP and then edit. Does this sound right?
    Thanks again,

Yes! You can trim clips on both sides and you can add clips in the timeline for one ‘ track’ in DVDSP.

Just take care to check the TC values after changes to the image, since they’ll jump to the next I-frame, then trim the sound precisely to the same value.

    Hope this helps,
