can I use a proxy for a psd imported as a comp?
I’ve searched the forum and can’t find an answer. Using 6.5. I imported 4 or 5 large psd’s already.
Anyway to substitue proxies. All psd’s have many layers.

Sure…just move to the frame in the PSD comp where you want your proxy to begin, then right click it in the project window for the Create Proxy option.

Sorry. I’m either not being clear, or I’m just not getting this. I’ve imported psd’s as comps. Those comps are, in turn, going into other comps. When I select the psd comp (not the layered psd file) in the project window and select ‘select proxy’ I browse to a 72dpi version of the psd, but there is no indication in the project window that a proxy is being used. (when I do the same for a flattened bitmap, I get the black square next to it).
Where’s my mistake here?

I just did exactly what you described and AE did recognize the proxy I chose and showed the black box. I’m on Windows AE 5.5 PB right now, but use both Mac and Windows machines with AE 6.5 PB at work and haven’t had a problem with proxies on any of them. Sorry I couldn’t help.

I doubt it, but I suppose it could be. I use proxies on Macs too, although I don’t recall specifically whether I’ve proxied any PSD comps lately.
