  • can I un-nest a sequence?

Posted by Mark Barroso on June 12, 2009 at 6:35 pm

The final version of my 74 minute film is a sequence I labeled Master Sequence. That sequence is made of about 8 nested sequences. Those 8 also have nested sequences in them. I know that if I just click on them they become “un-nested” and open up as the original sequence.

But what I’m trying to do is export it as an OMF file for an audio mixer. I want to deliver all of the audio tracks. The second best thing would be to export a stereo mix of the dialogue and a stereo mix of the music (4 tracks). Is there an easy, i.e., proper way to do this?

The third idea would be to have a sequence without any nesting. Is there a way to paste to a new timeline a sequence without it being nested?

Yes. Open the nest. highlight everything. Hit COPY (CMD C). Go back to the main sequence. Delete the nest. Put the playhead where the nest started, hit PASTE (CMD-V).

Nesting in nests…ugh. I hate nesting. Complicates things…case in point, you. YOu will have to open the nests and copy and paste your way out of it.

I’m surprised no one knows this but if you can drag it from either the viewer or the browser, simply hold the COMMAND key before dropping it and it will expand.
