  • can I save a background?

Posted by Richard Klimesh on September 8, 2005 at 5:50 pm

I’ve modified one of the standard DVDA3 backgrounds and would like to save it to use on other pages. How can I do this? The closest option I see is to Save Menu As Theme, but that save the text and button graphics as well. All I want to do is save the background.

Well, how did you modify it if you didn’t open the image file in the first place?

In Project overview, double click the menu page, then in menu page properties, select the background media tab and the path and filename of the background image are on the “video” line.

Well, my question was not about opening a background – I did that by simply dragging a stock background from the background bin – but how to save it as a background, so it shows up in the bin with other backgrounds, once it has been modified. How so I save it?

I think this can only be done in the XML file that defines the characteristics of a DVDA theme. If you know XML, you should be able to make some sense of the format and make the appropriate changes. If not, you might be able make changes to backgrouds or button images by simply locating and changing media filenames in a copied file.

It seems to me that somewhere on the web is a tutorial about theme development/modification. In fact, I might have seen it on the Sony Media site.

    Good luck.

Click on Preview. Now above the remote is a series of buttons. One of them is “Copy to Clipboard”. Click that button. Now open your paint program and PASTE.

    Thanks, Edward, that works fine.

Now, do you know of a way I can get that file into the Backgrounds bin so that I can drag and drop it onto pages?

It looks like those are coming from the themes in some way. What if you start your own “Backgrounds” folder and then just pull them from there in the Explorer view?

Excellent! I had been changing the background in the dropdown menu in the properties window. I didn’t realize I could drag ‘n’ drop background images from the Explorer window onto pages. Great solution. Onward.
