  • Can I run disk utility from macbook to repair boot disk in g5 using target mode?

    Hey guys,

I found some issues touching on this topic, but want to make sure I don’t do something reeeeaaaally stupid.

So, I lost my G5 install disk. My boot disk needs repairing according to disk utility, so I got the idea that perhaps i can boot the G5 in target mode through my macbook and repair the G5 drive that way.

My concern is that the macbook being intel will not understand volumen info and such on the g5 boot drive.

    Will this work?

    Thanks!
    John

Well the two Tiger OSes are basically the same and Apple still uses the same type of hard drives so it should work. I’ve actually tried doing this with my iBook G4 and PowerMac G5. For some reason Disk Utility couldn’t find my PowerMac so I had to search for my Apple Care disk and boot from that.

    Good Luck!!
