Can I Rename P2 Cards?
Posted by Bill Thomas on February 1, 2008 at 6:49 pmWhen transferring footage from P2 cards to my Mac, they always show up as NO NAME. Since I transfer from my camera, I get 4 NO NAME drives on my desktop.
Is there any way to rename them so I can keep track of them?
In Finder it shows the name is locked.
Thanks,
Bill

February 1, 2008 at 8:19 pmYou can rename just like anything else, BUT, the best way to empty the cards after transferring files is to format them in the camera, so once again, you lose names. bummer.

February 1, 2008 at 8:53 pmAnd I DO format the cards in-camera.
But I still can’t figure out the magic command to rename in Finder (it says the name is locked!!)
Thanks again,
Bill

February 2, 2008 at 7:32 pmDownload the new P2 Card Formatter tool for the Mac from Panasonic’s website. It lets you format on your computer and name the cards, and the name survives a format so you can free yourself from “no name”. Unless you format the cards in-camera; at that point the cards will revert to “no name” but if you format from the computer via the new P2 Card Formatter, you won’t see “no name” again.
Also, if you offload your cards to a P2 Store, the name of the card transfers to the P2 Store so you’ll never see 15 volumes of “no name” again!

Get the most from your DVX camera. The DVX Book and DVX DVD are now available on ebay and at Amazon (https://www.fiftv.com/db) -

February 2, 2008 at 7:41 pmIt looks like this works for the G4 with the PC slot. Does this work with a MacBook Pro and a Duel Adapter?

February 2, 2008 at 11:42 pmBarry – where’s this on the P2 site? I can only find the P2 Card Format Station app, which is PC-only. Thanks!

August 27, 2008 at 7:29 amAnd even on Tiger P2formatter does not recognize the P2 cards when they are mounting from the 500 over FireWire. And I can’t rename the cards using Finder, either…. :-/
