  • Can I Merge Session Files?

Hi everyone. Is there any way to merge session files in Vegas Movie Studio? I’ve got a project that I started when VMS had only 4 video track capability but it now has 10 tracks and I would love to merge these other session files into one session file if possible.

I don’t see any way to do it. I know I can render each of the tracks in the other session files and bring them in rendered, but that’s not optimal because I don’t want to lose my edits and separate clips in the other sessions and each track in the other sessions has a rather complicated set of effects and motion tracking that I don’t want to lose or manually reproduce in the merged session file.

I know you Pro guys don’t have to worry about video track limitations. Maybe one day, I can justify the cost of Pro but I’m just an advanced hobbyist. 🙁

You can open two copies of Movie Studio and Copy and Paste events between them. That’s about as good as it gets.

John, I discovered this after I posted but I was hoping there was some better method that I was missing. Bummer. Very tedious and error prone and do it this way. 🙁

Audacity (it’s free) is a multi-track audio program can handle more than 10 tracks and is an option to consider.

Thanks Mike but I already own Cakewalk Sonar, a high-end pro audio editing and mixing application. What I need (and don’t want to spend the money on) is an unlimited track videoeditor, not audio editor.

My apologies Steve. I read your post numerous times and kept thinking “audio tracks” when you clearly said “video tracks”.
