  Can I merge paths with a text layer and a shape layer in After Effects

  Hey,

  I’m trying to create an animated dollar sign where the rectangle is animated separate from the “S”. I want the rectangle to animate onto the screen first, then the “S” using the stroke effect.

  Problem is that the layers aren’t merged when the dollar sign eventually falls into place.

  I’ve tried to turn the text layer “S” into a shape layer, then creating the rectangle within that shape layer to merge paths. And this works fine, but I can’t animate these separate layers.

  Please let me know if you have suggestions or need more detail.
