Can I get Vegas Pro 8 to import from a new Sony HDRCX160 Handycam:?
I just picked up a new camera as a wedding gift. While I still use my dinosaur Super 8 Sony for the semi-pro shoots, I’m going to start using this as camera 2. Trouble is on my test shots I can’t import (yet) off the camera to Vegas Pro 8. Can this be done? Am I screwed and have to upgrade Vegas?

Have you tried File > Import > AVCHD Camcorder?
If that doesn’t work, then yes, you will need to upgrade.
BTW, you can’t expect (almost) 3 year old software to deal with video from a brand new camera.
Camcorder formats change on a regular basis and software has to change to keep up. -
I tried it quickly, but didn’t take the time to truly check the settings. I will try again tonight and then, sadly, import via Sony’s crappy consumer program (PMB, I think) until I can upgrade to V10.
