can i get some help..
My system crashes everytime I try to open my project, it will dump the memory and give me a blue screen until it restarts. I have windows vista and was wondering if this was a typical problem or if there is something wrong with my system. I have the program on a hp labtop, turion 64 processor… any thoughts?

Only system code can cause a blue screen and more than likely it’s a hardware driver. What did the blue screen tell you? It usually will list the an error at the top and the name of the file that caused the error at the bottom. This is critical information for debugging the problem. I’m guessing it may be an audio driver or something that Vegas looks for when it starts (audio, video, etc.).

and update from the last blue screen i got.
it said to “disable antivirus, disk defrag, or backup utilities. Check hard drive configuration, check for updated drivers.”
I disable norton every time i use the program, which helps only a small amount. What does the rest of this mean, maybe I have backup utilities running in the background? Can someone translate this for me? -
If you don’t know about those other utilities you probably don’t have them. You would have had to buy them because Windows doesn’t have a defrag or backup that runs in the background by default.
What was the main error? That would have been all in CAPS at the top of the screen. Something like: IRQ_NOT_LESS_THAN or something like that. At the bottom of the screen would have been a filename with a STOP error like (nvscrd.sys STOP 0x0000005,xxx…) Those are the important pieces of information you need to find this. Google for them and see what it says.

“PFN_LIST_CORRUPT” was one of them. Another was “Run CHKDSK/F to check for harddrive corruption, then restart.” These do not sound good to me.

Ouch! PFN_LIST_CORRUPT is a memory corruption issue. You may have a bad memory stick or incorrect memory timing settings in your BIOS. If you don’t know what a BIOS is then chances are you didn’t change anything and I’d say a stick of memory is going bad.
The CHKDSK error means your hard drive is also corrupt. (this can happen with a lot of blue screen stops) I would do what it says and run CHKDSK /F from a C: prompt. You probably have cross-linked file which will lead to more corruption over time if you don’t fix them.
