Can I export my PNG subtitle layer that was burnt in to a sidecar file or timed transcript?
A client asked for subtitles for a video I’m working on. They made it seem like they wanted them burnt in so I created the text in InDesign on separate sheets and imported them all into Premiere as PNG files and moved them on to the timeline to the right areas. They have now stated they want them separately so they can be toggled on or off. Is there anyway I can simply use the layer I’ve already done for this or do I have to start from scratch? They’ve stated they want it as a sidecar file or timed transcript

If you’re on Windows you could use the free Subtitle Edit software to remake your subs and export them in pretty much every kind of format available.

It depends where the subtitles should be used. For DVD or BluRay export an EDL for subtiles.
Import into Excel in clean up the times there till you have only tc in tc out and the subtitle file name in each row. Then add a prefix like _#_ to each to each subtitle file name.
Create a new folder and export the Excel file as comma separated list into this folder. Copy the pngs into the same folder. Open the list in a text editor and add a line before the first line: $SetFilePathToken = _#_Your STL for DVDs is ready. Apple DVDSP

You can use the timing also to create SRTs for YouTube, Vimeo etc.

Not for DVD. They just want it for online, probably YouTube
